Frankana Caravan und Freizeit GmbH

Introduction of a new IT infrastructure for the camping and leisure equipment supplier

Catalog production time shortened by 20%

More than 50 affiliated dealers

The transfer of over 17,000 products to 90 families

Project Goal

Duration: 2019 — Ongoing

The goal of the project was to create an IT infrastructure that was as homogenous and future-proof as possible with high-performance components and systems. The existing workflows and procedures were to be optimized, standardized, and largely automated to establish a solid and efficacious foundation for the company's digital future.

In the future, it should be possible to address both existing wholesale customers (B2B) and end customers (B2C) with a digital platform and help retailers with digitalization without adding to channel conflict. Existing sales channels should also be streamlined and optimized to achieve cost savings. This includes the existing print catalog.

As the company consists of two distinct entities that operate under the Frankana-Freiko umbrella brand, there exists a multitude of distinctive characteristics and obstacles.  For instance, the two companies had different ways of doing things, responsibilities, and tools they used. Structures and systems that had matured led to data silos, efficiency losses, and limited scaling options.

Karsten Neumann, Managing Director Frankana Caravan und Freizeit GmbH

Frankana-Freiko is a medium-sized company that was founded in 1982 in Gollhofen and consists of two different companies, Frankana Caravan und Freizeit GmbH and FREIKO Handelsgesellschaft mbH. The external appearance is under the umbrella brand Frankana-Freiko.

Over the years, Frankana-Freiko has developed into one of the leading wholesalers for camping and leisure equipment in Europe and now supplies more than 3,000 specialist dealers worldwide.

Frankana-Freiko has a warehouse area of more than 30,000 square meters, on which more than 13,000 different articles are stored. Deliveries to retailers are made by the company's own fleet of vehicles.

Today, Frankana and Freiko operate exclusively as wholesale companies. Many different items in the camping accessories sector are purchased from the manufacturer, stored in Gollhofen and Uhlstädt-Kirchhasel, and then delivered to specialist retail partners all over the world. The two companies provide their retail partners with comprehensive support and offer training, direct deliveries and individual advice with store concepts.

Another special feature is the specialist retailer exhibition. This in-house exhibition is an integral part of the company philosophy. In its form, the exhibition is unique in the industry – current products are presented on 1100 m² of exhibition space and can be examined and tested on site.
